Project Description

Project: Melbourne Intermodal System (MIS)

Client: Department of Transport, Victoria

The Metropolitan Intermodal System is about changing the way containerised freight is moved between Melbourne’s major ports and metropolitan freight precincts through land use, policy and infrastructure initiatives.

It is an important step in establishing a sustainable and efficient means of handling the forecast growth in international container movements through Melbourne.

The MIS will see a portion of containers moved in and out the Port of Melbourne via rail line-haul shuttle services and high productivity road vehicles to a number of suburban intermodal terminals located in Melbourne’s key logistics precincts.
